Record for Clean Up in Bywong

Greg Gougeon with his winning entry

The rain stayed put this year whilst over a record 70 people of all ages took part in the annual clean up Australia event in Bywong this year, and brought in over 140 bags of rubbish. Many regulars turned out to do sterling work, including Doc and Bernice Ashworth who cleaned 18 bags of rubbish and two trailer loads from the Old Federal Highway and an old quarry along the road.

Reports from other volunteers indicate that the most found items included beer and other alcohol bottles and takeaway food wrappers, Not as many larger items such as tyres were found, although the approaches to the Macs Reef Road tip show that people going to the tip are still not covering their loads.

A Thank-You BBQ was held at the Bywong Hall following the clean up and Greg Gougeon won the competition for the most unusual item – a DD padded bra. Bywong Community Association  thanks all volunteers for their time, and would particularly like to thank Lynn Cooper and Darryl Bourke for their coordination work , the Palerang Council for their support and for the NSW Queanbeyan Police for making their presence felt.
