Macs Reef Waste Transfer Station too costly for Palerang?

A total proposed cost of $1,231,900 is how much it will cost to build a new waste transfer station (WTS) at Macs Reef Road, according to the consultants who developed the options and costed them.

What we know about the costs is that they include:

  • Site Investigations

  • Planning Process

  • Site Establishment

  • Macs Reef Road Intersection Construction

  • Gravel Road Reconstruction

  • WTS Construction

  • Sediment/Leachate Pond Construction

What we don't know about the costs here is:

Does the cost of  building the WTS include rehabilitation? This site would need to be rehabilitated whether there is an WTS there or not.

What is included for $130,000 worth of planning? Is this all design fees? Or is this an in-house council cost that we pay for anyway?

What would be the cost of having to provide an alternative for 3,700 residents through Bungendore WTS or a wheelie bin service? There would be significant extra costs in doing either of these so saying that there will be an additional $1.23m in costs is not quite accurate.

We are not really comparing costs properly here because there will be a cost to provide some kind of service, no matter where it is located or what service is it.
