Apology

In the September Issue of the Wamboin Whisper, on page 30, in a letter by Peter Greenwood, the following sentence appeared.

"The Wamboin and Bywong Community Associations have joined forces to put up a joint Group ticket for the coming election; this the 'Progressive Palerang Group'".

Peter prepared this letter for the Whisper. He asked me to check it for accuracy, as I had been as closely involved in the election and he had not. I am one of the five candidates in Group D.

I failed to catch the fact that this sentence was not accurate. In reality only one person involved with the Bywong Community Association, a past president, joined the Progressive Palerang Group or, to my knowledge, actively supported the group. Another member of the Bywong Community Association is running as an independent. Another two Bywong residents are running as candidates in Group B.

I doubt that the Bywong Community Association, as a group, would wish to take sides in this situation. I didn't think about this when checking Peter's letter for accuracy. I should have. The statement as written was not true. It was unfair to the Bywong Community Association. It was unfair to the three candidates from the Bywong area who are, to my knowledge, no less supported by the Bywong Community Association than the candidates in Group B.

Peter Harrison of Group D has worked with Morag Cotsell, who manages the Bywong Community Association's website, to alter page 30 on the website, and has spoken to Peter Greenwood about the correction. Unfortunately it is too late to alter all the copies of the Whisper that went into mailboxes throughout Bywong and Wamboin.

I apologise for not catching the mistake and thus not being helpful to Peter Greenwood, who asked me to check it. I apolgise to the Bywong Community Association and to the three candidates from the Bywong area. I also thank the many members of the Bywong area who help write the Whisper, deliver it, and pay for it by running ads.
