Species Suited to Permanently Boggy and /or Moist Soil e.g Near Septics, Water Features, Boggy Sites
The following species are a few of the hardy native species for the Southern Tablelands and are useful in transpiring water from waterlogged soil surrounding septic tanks. They should not be planted right alongside the absorption trench, but can be used anywhere within 20 m distance (larger species) up to within c. 3m of the trench (small species).
Trees and shrubs are included and by correct selection a very attractive feature which will provide a harbor for wildlife can be created, turning a potential environmental problem (runoff) into an environmental feature. If detergents containing phosphates are used (which is totally unnecessary today), establishment of some species may be more difficult than others. Local or regional species are marked with an asterisk (*).
